UI Redesign
KTBSOnline is a fully customized web portal that facilitates the enrollment and management of employee benefits. It provides a benefits management system for HR professionals and web portal for employees.
The Goal
Update and modernize the UI of KTBSOnline’s HR Home portal and better highlight commonly used features.
The Redesign.
Our team began by making the decision to take a dashboard design approach. This allowed us to pull out information from various sections of the site that we want to feature on the home page.
Colors.
One big challenge we encountered was that we were allowing our customers to choose their own colors for the header, headings, buttons, and links. We found this gave us very little control over the look and feel of the site. We ultimately decided to choose a bright, but versatile blue for our highlight color, and a darker blue and light gray for our text and secondary colors, and decided to limit customer custom colors to only the sticky header, which remains visible at all times. This resulted in a more cohesive look overall.
Buttons.
For the dashboard design we decided on large outline style ghost buttons. We found that solid buttons were drawing too much attention away from the content, which we wanted to be front and center on each panel. The rounded corners and color keep the buttons from getting lost, and create a friendlier feel to the page.
